Is Bansko worth living in over the summer, or is it just a ski town?

Summer Bansko is a genuinely different town from ski-season Bansko, and for many remote workers it is actually the better season. What you get: the town sits at around 900 meters at the foot of the Pirin mountains, so summer days are warm but evenings stay cool while Sofia and the coast swelter. The hiking is world-class - Pirin National Park trails, glacial lakes like the Vihren area routes, plus the Rila lakes within day-trip distance. And the nomad scene does not hibernate: Bansko has one of the most established coworking communities in the Balkans, anchored by Coworking Bansko and several newer spaces, with a big annual nomad festival in early summer that temporarily doubles the foreign population. Hundreds of remote workers now stay year-round, so you will not be alone. Costs: yes, summer rents drop well below ski-season rates - long-stay one-bedrooms commonly go for 300-450 euro a month in summer, and monthly deals are easy to negotiate because owners prefer occupancy over emptiness. The honest downsides: May and early June are shoulder season, when a chunk of restaurants and bars close for renovation and the town feels quiet; things wake up from late June. The town itself is small - if you need urban energy, you will make regular trips to Sofia, about two hours away. A car helps a lot for exploring but is not essential thanks to the coworking crowd organizing shared trips. For a May-September base with mountains and community, it is hard to beat.
