Mandatory dual price display in leva and euro ended on August 8

The one-year period of mandatory dual pricing in leva and euro expired on August 8. Merchants now quote prices in euro only, though they may voluntarily show a lev equivalent. Commercial banks keep exchanging leva until December 31, 2026 (some now charge fees), while the Bulgarian National Bank exchanges leva free of charge, without limits and with no deadline, at the fixed 1.95583 rate.

Why it matters if you live in Bulgaria

Price tags, menus and receipts across Bulgaria are now euro-only, so no more decoding dual labels. Still holding old lev banknotes? Banks take them until end-2026, the central bank forever — and for free.
