Social security thresholds rose on August 1 — maximum insurable income now €2,300
Higher social security income thresholds took effect August 1 under the 2026 State Social Insurance Budget Act. The maximum monthly insurable income rose about 9% to €2,300 (from €2,111.64), and the minimum for self-insured persons increased to €620.20, matching the minimum wage. Civil servants also began paying personal contributions under an 80:20 split.
Why it matters if you live in Bulgaria
If you are employed or self-insured in Bulgaria — including EOOD owners and freelancers — contributions are now calculated against the higher €2,300 cap, so higher earners see slightly larger deductions from August payroll onward.
